Volunteer Income Tax Program
Need a hand to prepare your tax return? If you do not know how to prepare your income tax and benefit return, we may be able to help you.
Saskatoon Services for Seniors in conjunction with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) provides a free income tax service to individuals and couples who have lower incomes and a simple tax situations. The objective of the Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is to help eligible taxpayers who do not know how to prepare their income tax and benefit returns, and who have low to modest income and a simple tax situation.
If you have mobility issues, we have a volunteer who can come to you. Please call 306-668-2762 and let us know that you have difficulty getting out, and need someone to come to your home for income tax preparation. We will call you back to arrange a time for our volunteer to come.
The CVITP is a collaboration between the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Saskatoon Services for Seniors. We work with CRA to train and book volunteers to prepare the returns.
Are you eligible for help? To find out if you are eligible for help, use the income levels shown in the table called “Maximum income levels”. For each additional dependent you have, add $2,500 to the family income. You should not have interest income of more than $1,000.
- Single person up to $35,000
- Couple up to $40,000
- Your return is simple
- Have difficulties with mobility
Volunteers do not prepare complex returns, such as returns for individuals who:
- have self-employment income;
- have business or rental income and expenses;
- have capital gains or losses;
- have employment expenses;
- file for bankruptcy; or
- deceased in the year.
